Do we ask?

20 11 2012

“Ask of me” says God to his Son …and He will give all nations for His inheritance.

Psa 2:8  Ask of me, and I will make the nations your heritage, and the ends of the earth your possession.

The key word here is “ask”!

In John 17:20 Jesus does exactly this!

Joh 17:20  “I do not ask for these only, but also for those who will believe in me through their word,

But…this request involves US! We must respond. We must unite (v21) and receive the authority manifest in God’s name.

Jesus himself has transferred that authority to us as his church or body conditional to our asking and being in Unity. When and as the church in unity prays in His name, we will receive the promised inheritance.

That is…the nations for your inheritance and the ends of the earth for your possession.

Psa 133:1  Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity!

This states that we are to dwell together in unity! More than that… it says, “how good and how pleasant”. It speaks thereafter of the oils that run down Aaron’s beard which is an annointment. In today’s day the blessing that this speaks of is lost, but trust me …this was viewed as an exceedingly good thing. So, it speaks of unity being like an annointment with Holy Oil. It ends by saying, “there the Lord COMMANDS a blessing!

Eph 4:1  I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called,

Paul calls on us to be worthy of our calling. He describes this as being with humility, gentleness, patience and showing tolerance for one another. In V3 he then specifies that we are to be in unity of the Spirit and in a bond of peace. In v13 he likens the level of unity to our maturity in Him.

Eph 4:13  until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ,

There is an obvious link between unity of the body of Christ and maturity in Him.

To be in Unity is not to agree with everything, but in a loving and caring way discuss or debate whatever the differences may be and to continue until a conclusion is found that can be agreed upon. Even if it is not what you agree with, but what you can allow others to agree with.

In patience and with gentleness we are to communicate and reflect the love of the Lord and not our intolerance.

In conclusion:

We are to take the Gospel to ALL the nations of the world. But…we are to do it in unity with the body of Christ and in the manner as described by Paul under the guidance of Jesus! AND we are to ask for His and our desires for it to be fulfilled!

Bless you as you seek His way.
