Flood- Real or imagined

3 09 2008

In discussions with even well meaning believers we have often heard that question that what if the Bible were not the truth and how can we believe some of the weird stories of the bible. Well I have questioned as you have and went to factual proof although I must admit that I do not believe we must only rely on factual proof. The Bible is geared to be difficult to believe UNLESS you engage faith, which is the belief of the unseen because of who He is. This is what makes it difficult!

I must admit I would have it no other way because how else can we believe in this incredible God who loves us to the extent that he has sacrificed His son for our sins while we were and still are a sinful nation.

Let’s look at some of the factual proof!

Claude James Rich, an English agent in 1811 found inscriptions on bricks brought for sale fascinating. He dug into the mounds where the bricks were sourced and found some tablets which he took back to Baghdad with him. No One could decipher these tablets. He returned to the mounds and started digging what he thought were the remains of ancient Nineveh. After many months Paul Botta, a French consul at Mosul also began digging and in 1842 laid bare the remains of the palace of Sargon. Sir Henry Layard eventually found Nineveh and Calah in 1851where over 100,000 volumes were found in the library of Assur-banipal.

So what you may say, this is not evidence except that the ancient cities and civilization as mentioned in the Bible existed. That is historically known, but what about some of the weird stories like the flood?  Oh yes, the flood! Well I had to start somewhere because since then many languages have been opened to the minds of men and fascinating histories and practices have been elaborated on.

In 1835, Sir Henry Rawlinson noticed on the Behistun Mountain about 200 miles from Babylon an enormous rock with strange carvings on it. Over 14 years he sat on a system of ladders trying to decipher these strange carvings. Eventually they started to make sense and he found them to be a number of languages describing the times of Darius, King of Persia. (see the biblical book of Ezra). The writings were Persian,  Elamite and Babylonian. This unlocked the treasures of ancient languages! We are not going to look at the various writings and the materials written on but suffice it to say enough material has remained for us to piece together rather reliable information of ancient times.

Now about the flood! The famous Weld Dynastic prism is a prism of baked clay from 2170BC which contains a list of Kings even from pre-flood kings which was found at Larsa which is  a few miles from Ur which is the city Abraham left. One of the key discoveries is the Hammurabi Code which is a highly polished stone with hieroglyphic writing. This is not a copy but the original held in the Louvre of Paris! This from 2000BC!

It is interesting to note that the story of the flood is told traditionally in nearly all areas of the human race. The story of the flood is mentioned in the Babylonian, Assyrian, Egyptian, Persian, Hindu, Greek, Chinese, Native American, Indian, Brazilian, Peruvian and many other groups traditional stories.  All have a tradition of an enormous deluge which flooded the “world” where all died with the exception of one family!

In tablets found at Assur-banipal George Smith of the British Museum, found references to the “flood” and “the age before the flood” as well as “inscriptions of the time before the flood”.

So what is the evidence of the fantastic climatic happening. Well, the University of Pennsylvania and the British Museum under the leadership of Dr C L Woolley (1929) have found at Ur, Kish and Fara (Traditional home of Noah) human habitation on top of a mud deposit (water-laid clay strata) of more than 8 feet without any sign of human habitation. Buried beneath this strata are more ruins of another city immensely different from the previous indicating that there must have been a very long period between the two. Dr Woolley  states that the vast amount of sediment indicate a great depth and long period of massive amounts of water that could not have been deposited by overflowing river banks, but only by an inundation of immense proportions as the biblical flood.

Kish was the first city built after the flood. In the strata below the “water-laid clay” was a chariot with wheels and cooper nails with the animals that drew it still bridled indicating a rather rapid and cataclysmic event where the owners did not have the time or inclination to remove a valuable asset such as animals.

In  Fara, which is located midway between Babylon and Ur originally located on the Euphrates but now 40 miles to the east, Dr Schmidt found three cities. The top was of 3rd dynasty Ur while the middle was of Early Sumerian and the lower which was beneath the flood strata as mentioned earlier was of Pre-Flood “unknown” people group. Dr Schmidt described this layer as of “charcoal and ashes, a dark colored culture refuse which may have been wall remains, painted pottery, skeleton, cylinder seals, stamp seals, pots, pans and vessels of various and unknown  purposes”.

So there it is…the flood remains for those that need facts. Of course there are now many more examples in over 20 more cities in the region which you can investigate.

Hello Web Admin, I noticed that your On-Page SEO is is missing a few factors, for one you do not use all three H tags in your post, also I notice that you are not using bold or italics properly in your SEO optimization. On-Page SEO means more now than ever since the new Google update: Panda. No longer are backlinks and simply pinging or sending out a RSS feed the key to getting Google PageRank or Alexa Rankings, You now NEED On-Page SEO. So what is good On-Page SEO?First your keyword must appear in the title. Then it must appear in the URL.You have to optimize your keyword and make sure that it has a nice keyword density of 3-5% in your article with relevant LSI (Latent Semantic Indexing). Then you should spread all H1,H2,H3 tags in your article.Your Keyword should appear in your first paragraph and in the last sentence of the page. You should have relevant usage of Bold and italics of your keyword. There should be one internal link to a page on your blog and you should have one image with an alt tag that has your keyword….wait there’s even more Now what if i told you there was a simple WordPress plugin that does all the On-Page SEO, and automatically for you? That’s right AUTOMATICALLY, just watch this 4minute video for more information at. Seo Plugin
