What is Church part 3

8 06 2007

3Church is not about “doing” things but about “being”. What do I mean by that. Well, let’s first look at what it is not! A southeastern Kentucky woman was recently killed when handling snakes in church as part of the service. I fail to see where that has to do with “Church” and fully understand the concept of trying to increase faith and the biblical text under which these ridiculous things are done. However, I fail to see what that has to do with meeting the needs of the sheep and feeding them and herding them

Joh 21:15 When they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?” He said to him, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.” He said to him, “Feed my lambs.”
Joh 21:16 He then said to him a second time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” He said to him, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.” He said to him, “Tend my sheep.”
Joh 21:17 He said to him the third time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” Peter was distressed that he had said to him a third time, “Do you love me?” and he said to him, “Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you.” (Jesus) said to him, “Feed my sheep.

The phrasing of these questions are important as it is a conditional question. The response can only be as a condition of the question. Therefore, If you love Jesus then that is what you shall do! Feed His sheep! That is a tremendous responsibility. He does not say play with snakes and challenge me according to my Word and see that i will protect you. We always seem to get sidelined into inconsequential nonsense rather than remember that it is quite easy and is about loving one another! End of story!
