South Africa’s slippery downward slide

15 09 2011

Julius Malema has come out to question Judge Colin Lamonts remarks on the notorious “hate speech” judgement. That is not a concern that he questions a judge but what is of concern, is the manner in which he questioned the judge. The other concern is what he questioned about!

Let us look at these two area.Julius Malema claims that the ruling of “guilty” for Hate Speech in which he sang the now notorious, “kill the Boer” song,  is partly due to the court and Judge Collin Lamont being “racist”. The fact that he cannot fathom, or is it will not, the effect of not only singing the song, but the attitude he portrays when singing the song is sad and indicative of immaturity and/or blatant disregard for the people he professes to represent.

I must admit that I am split in two over the “new” ANC and what they are becoming. From being pro ANC and returning to South Africa with my family to be part of the new “Rainbow Nation” it is all becoming very disappointing. This re-awakening within me of the disgust for certain persons (As I had for PW and Pik) saddens me deeply. The fact that Julius Malema must ask what morals when Judge Lamont encouraged him to improve his moral outlook on what he is doing, is very disappointing.  If you are so out of touch with what is good and decent then you should not be in a public position.

History shows us what is expected as we go forward. I need not mention the examples of Napoleon or Hitler. If we go back further we find in the times of judges (or better translated “leaders” of the newly established Israel nation) they continually fell into sin and were put under subjugation and had lives of misery. This was because of moral degradation!

Then a “Judge” or Leader would arise and lift the people out of misery by establishing acceptable practices and mutual respect for the citizenry. Eventually the Judge dies and the nation falls into debauchery driven by greed and self-serving interests. Until the next Judge arrives. The obvious lesson is that leading is more than simply following a path but to follow a path which is acceptable with a moral context.

If you need to ask but what is that moral context then you are in real trouble. Every person has an innate sense of right and wrong and what is evil. Even those doing the evil deed KNOW that what they do is evil even as they do it!

This is not only what happened in ancient times and with the Jewish nation. The same happened to most of the great nations.  Is it so difficult to see where the decline of Rome came about. One can go on and on with examples of what greed does to the leader of a nation and how it impacts the whole nation! Are we willing to allow this to happen in South Africa, this incredible country not because of its natural beauty only, but because of the unbelievably great people in the country. We are blessed with fantastic people. Yet we allow the hurt and immature to set the tone for what we do and become as a nation.
