The Greatest Show on Earth

31 10 2007

Have you been to a meeting where the well trained greeters smile at you and exuberantly inform you how welcome you are while their eyes wander past you to the next couple coming up the driveway?

You stroll past all the adverts for the latest tape and CD sessions now available in the bookstore. A message that you are invited to the cafeteria afterwards to have a cup of coffee flashes from the screen and you are informed that an appointed individual will provide details to all newcomers so that the church can welcome you. Taking into consideration some of my previous pieces written does this mean that it is my opinion that it is the end of Church as we know it? Glad you asked:) The answer is surprisingly simple.

As the Beatles said, “Love, Love, Love”!

25 10 2007

money-two.jpg

I have been writing about church today with a look at what it was and wondering where did we go wrong and what is our season today. This is definitely not an easy topic as most formal Pastors, Dominees etc. do not like what I am saying. You may so, so what! To be honest it does concern me as I have no intention of hurting, but rather would like all to look at what I am saying and wondering if this could be so and imagining what would that world then look like if we really did love each other!

Is this the failure of church

I have been intrigued by why we are not being effective in sharing the gospel and attracting people to Christianity and in fact the opposite is said to be happening. We are rapidly losing members and I have recently read that the average youth find the church irrelevant. Why?

What are we doing wrong?

22 10 2007

exuberant.jpg

There are many areas one can consider when looking at church and why they are successful or for that matter why they are dreadful and rather to be avoided. It all comes down to a few things only!

  1. Honouring the name of Jesus
  2. Prevalence of love

That is it! Read the rest of this entry »

Why we force our religous views on others?

17 10 2007

fun.jpg

I have been drawn into the world of atheists and have had some great discussions with a number of them who admittedly have some good reasons why they do not believe. I have found that the prime reason most do not want anything to do with Jesus or religion is not because of the belief system but because of the way it is practiced.

In other words when they look at Christians they are disgusted and do not want to be involved in such lifestyles and the words “Hypocrites” arise quite often.

I want to investigate this with you if I may. Read the rest of this entry »

The reality of the nation- South Africa

16 10 2007

sa-pride.jpg

When recently confronted with “the state of our country”, it set me thinking. What is the state of my country and as this is a blog to the international community let’s be clear, my country is South Africa.

One can read great reports on the state of your country using resources indicating traveling conditions or the political state as well as financial details indicating the wealth or otherwise of your country. In fact you can find websites which even indicates the religious state of your country.

This is my overview of South Africa, my beloved country. Read the rest of this entry »

Warning- soppy material

12 10 2007

hippy.jpg

There are times when things just get too much for one and you need a space or area to block off for yourself. I had reached this area a while ago when numerous things simply crashed around me. As the “Man of the house” it is my responsibility to lead my family and by example (not only speech:) to guide them to be the best they can! Read the rest of this entry »

Why I do what I do!Beware -religous content

12 10 2007

I had the honour of leading a funeral service for a colleague and dear friend yesterday. Today I opened my emails and was pleasantly surprised to see a response from an old school friend. I had written to him and advised what I am doing simply to catch up on old times as we had just re-established connection.

Why our churches are powerless today

We point fingers at the liberal and “ungodly” humanistic masses who have slowly allowed the issues of “human rights” to overshadow the value of Godly upbringing and values.

I believe it is the church itself that is the cause of these beliefs systems, because we have tolerated and taught “man made” religion and the striving after “dead works” for too long. Read the rest of this entry »
