Sportsmen acknowledging Jesus

29 05 2007

SportsmenTo tell you the truth I thought this would have ended by now! I am astounded by the comments received both on the blog and through my email. In the post game interview the returning wing for the Springbok side who thrashed the English at Rugby, Ashwin Willemse remarked that his good form was , “thanks to God”. I have not seen a single remark about that. Neither do I see any remarks about soccer players scoring and pointing up to the heavens acknowledging where the skill comes from. 28 05 2007

SlippingThe phenomena of leaving a new born baby in a plastic shopping bag has taken a new meaning in the icy highveld winter. The chance that a baby can survive the night in a plastic bag is minimal. This then comes to a death sentence.

The hurt because of Church

25 05 2007

HurtI have been looking at the comments written concerning the T Shirt exposed by two of the top sportsmen in soccer and rugby indicating their belief in Christianity and Jesus. Some responses had such a degree of vehemence and hurt that I have been considering it and a recent piece sent to me by Floyd McClung (see link Floyd and Sally) concerning a book review of Alan Hirsch has triggered some thoughts I would like to test with you…the most critical and discerning public! I sprained my mind- The T shirt thing continues

23 05 2007

This thing will just not blow over. Amazing. We have over 20 people who died because of the cold snap in the Eastern Cape and not a word is said. No one says in a typical South African way, “Ag shame, all those people dead”. Read the rest of this entry »

Christianity in sport

23 05 2007

Rugby

During the final of the Super 14 rugby, Jaco Van der Westhuizen climbed the goal posts and displayed a T-Shirt he had on beneath his jersey declaring, “Jesus is King”. This has unleashed a tidal wave of comment. Before the game you could see Bakkies Botha kneeling in prayer and after the game the whole team circled a praying scrumhalf with the rest of the team on their knees before God.
